To help you select the lighting that is most suitable for your needs, we have identified the 3 key lighting environments for any kitchen; these are Task, Mood and Convenience. Task Lighting:
Put simply, task lighting provides appropriate and ample light to allow you to undertake everyday ‘traditional’ kitchen duties such as food preparation e.g. chopping vegetables, making the tea. It focuses on making the kitchen a working area. Task lighting is usually situated between the work surface and the person working in the kitchen. Mood Lighting:
Also referred to as feature, decorative or accent lighting, mood lighting is used to add dimension and depth to the room in order to create atmosphere and provide personality. Mood light provides a general all-over illumination that is fairly soft and unobtrusive. The purpose of mood lighting is to make the kitchen look attractive. It is a decorative lighting effect, not a functional one. This kind of kitchen lighting immediately improves the impact of any kitchen, yet it is often the most overlooked. Convienience Lighting:
Convenience lighting has a more specific purpose. It is directional and intended to be focused towards a specific area or to be used for particular job (making that job more ‘convenient’). | In Cabinet Lighting There are 2 classifications of In Cabinet lights; fittings that have integrated sensors so when the cabinet door is opened/closed the light will switch on/off accordingly to illuminate the cabinet interior. Alternatively, when a kitchen has glass cabinets, a standard surface cabinet light to illuminate the interior of the glass cabinet. Use warm white for traditional kitchens and cool white for modern frosted units. Use the RGB colour changing surface light in a frosted unit for the ultimate modern effect. |
